Have you ever wondered what it's like to have therapy online? Here is some information you may want to consider before making a decision.

There is robust research evidence that online and phone therapy is as effective as face-to-face therapy (UKCP, 2020; EATA, 2020), so it's not an inferior or second-best way to work together.

Working together online, you will get a different sense of my presence. You can only see me from the shoulders up, and the camera angle makes eye contact less straightforward.

I use Zoom (https://zoom.us) as a video and audio calling platform. Zoom is secure and is recommended by my professional organisations for delivering therapy online. If you don't have a Zoom account, you may need to create one (for free) by downloading the app or following the sign-in process at the link above. Before your appointment, you may find it helpful to look at Zoom to familiarise yourself. Try it out with a friend to get used to joining and adjusting your view and camera.

Before we meet, I will send you the link you need to click via email, and you can enter a few minutes beforehand. I will get ready for you in my own space and suggest you might like to do the following to get the most from your session;

Ensure your head and shoulders are fully visible, and you are centred in the screen, looking ahead. Ensure that your broadband or Wi-Fi signal is functioning correctly.

Due to your living arrangements, it may be difficult or impossible for you to find a quiet, secure, and confidential space to access your therapy by Zoom. In this case, having your therapy by phone may be more appropriate for you. Consider where you might go to make the call so you're not overheard. Public or shared spaces are not suitable.
